Art Restoration

Art Restoration at Taylor Clark GalleryIs your painting looking a little dull? We work with many talented conservators who are capable of bringing your art back to life. Art, like all things, needs to be periodically cleaned and restored to insure its longevity. Many times all that is needed is a simple cleaning and re-varnishing. Other times, where significant damage has occurred, major repairs and restoration is needed. In either case, this work is not to be attempted by an amateur.

Only in the hands of a professional conservator will the artwork and its value be preserved. Whether it is a painting, print or frame, there is a way to preserve it. Generally, this work is done first before we begin the framing process.  A cost estimate will be obtained from the conservator before any work is started. We can also handle transportation of the artwork to and from the conservator.

Here are a few tips to help care of your art once it is back on your wall:
  • First, try to hang your artwork away from direct sunlight.
  • Second, keep your temperature in a consistent range to avoid excessive humidity.
  • Third, occasionally wipe your artwork lightly with a dry feather duster to keep dust from accumulating, especially on the top edge.
  • Lastly, inspect your artwork from time to time. If you notice any changes, it may be time to contact a conservator.
