TAYLOR CLARK ART GALLERY: Artist Collection: Margaret Stones
Margaret Stones (b. 1920 in Australia) is one of the world's foremost botanical illustrators. She served for 25 years as the principal illustrator for Curtis's Botanical Magazine and also worked for the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, England. In 1976, she started work on 250 drawings of the flora of Louisiana, from which 12 were selected and reproduced as prints. The project commemorated the U.S. bi-centennial and the 50th anniversary of the Baton Rouge campus of Louisiana State University. Margaret is also the author of The endemic flora of Tasmania.
